Prepping the shrimp boat for June 5/24/14
The shrimpers are taking some time off from gigs in May for family events, but don’t worry – we’re hard at work getting the Shrimp Boat ready to sail in June. We’re adding some tunes to the set list from Little Feat, Zac Brown Band, and The Ozark Mountain Daredevils. And we’ve got special guests in June including Jerry Turnbow (from Phins, 12 Volt Band, and now Rockin’ Chair) and big brother Ron Finn (Alton native turned LA session guitarist and producer – remember The Ren and Stimpy show?).
Our June gigs:
-The Duo/Trio will be at Yellow Farmhouse Winery in Defiance, MO on 6/7 & 6/8 for their Peel n Eat weekend – a real shrimp fest for sure.
-The full 5-piece Jumbo Shrimp Band will play The Loading Dock in Grafton, IL on 6/14. Calling all Parrot Heads!
-The band will be in Marion, IL will party with the Southern Illinois Parrot Head Club at Rent One Stadium on 6/21/14. Batter Up!

To The Jumbo Shrimp Band:
Let me start with – WOW! I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun we had at our Annual Victory Celebration because of YOU! You all were amazing. I loved how you got everyone dancing, playing instruments and interacting with the band on stage. It was great. Everyone stayed for the duration of the event just to hear you. By the end of the evening, we had people ready to buy tickets for next year’s event! This year was the most successful Victory Celebration that we have hosted. From an event coordinator’s perspective, it was an honor to work with such an organized, yet laid back crew. Thanks for everything.

Jumbo Shrimp at The Loading Dock in Grafton, IL 3/27/14
We’re excited to announce The Jumbo Shrimp Band will be at The Loading Dock in Grafton, IL on Saturday June 14. The Loading Dock is one of the best places to see live music in the St. Louis area, with the stage right on the Mississippi river.
Jumbo Shrimp to perform at Rent One Park 3/21/14
The Southern Illinois Miners Frontier League Baseball Club in Marion, IL will host a Jimmy Buffett Night on June 21, 2014 and The Jumbo Shrimp Band will be leading the celebration. Activities will include a pre-game concert, a performance of the National Anthem, throwing out the first pitch (or coconut?) and then a 90 minute concert after the game. Group tickets are available. Play ball !!!!
New 2014 Performances Added to The Jumbo Shrimp Calendar 2/12/14
2014 is shaping up to be a great year with The Jumbo Shrimp. We have four performances at Sugar Creek Winery, including a very special celebration for their 20th anniversary in their very cool new pavilion. Two gigs at Bretz Winery near Carlyle Lake will surely bring out a big crowd of sailors. The Yellow Farmhouse Winery has made an excellent choice by pairing The Jumbo Shrimp with their Peel ‘n Eat Weekend. And for you sports fans, The Shrimp will be in Marion, IL to throw out the first pitch at the Miner’s game during their Jimmy Buffett Night celebration! See you soon……
Two Concerts scheduled with Matt Hoggatt and The Jumbo Shrimp Band 1/19/14
Singer / songwriter Matt Hoggatt left his position as Gautier, MS police detective after Jimmy Buffett heard Matt’s award winning song “Dear Jimmy Buffett,” signed Matt to Mailboat Records, and sent him on a nation-wide tour of Margaritaville café’s to record his first CD “Hotter Than Fishgrease.” The Jumbo Shrimp are excited to be doing two shows with Matt as he makes his way to St. Louis for the first time. The shows are Saturday March 8 at Great Rivers Saloon and Sunday March 9 at Belmont Vineyards. A portion of proceeds from these events will be donated to the “We Got Your Back Zac” fund.
Four Upcoming Benefits for “We Got Your Back Zac” Fund 1/19/14
6 year Zac Gossage was diagnosed with leukemia in June and has completed the first 6 months of a 3 year treatment program. The St. Louis area Parrothead Clubs are all rallying to assist Zac’s family and will have some fun while doing this! Four great benefit events are planned: Don Middlebrook Concert at Belmont Vineyards in Leasburg, MO on Thursday, Jan. 30; Trock and Trivia Night on Saturday Feb. 15 at St. John’s Evangelical Church; and two concerts with Matt Hoggatt and The Jumbo Shrimp Band on Saturday March 8 at Great Rivers Saloon and Sunday March 9 at Belmont Vineyards.
Jumbo Mojo Sauce now available at St. Louis Home Fires
We are thrilled that The Jumbo Shrimp Band’s honey BBQ sauce is now on sale at St. Louis Home Fires at 15053 Manchester in Ballwin, MO. Thanks to Frank Schmer for putting our sauce on the shelves with one of St. Louis best selections of BBQ sauces and rubs. Be sure to stop in and buy a couple bottles of Jumbo Mojo Sauce and while your there pick up a new grill. I did. And check out their free Tuesday Throw Down cooking demonstrations the last Tuesday of each month.
Don’t Cry For Marc, Argentina
Congrats to Jumbo Shrimp member Marc Torlina who will be spending most of October at The Fabulous Fox laying down hot Latin grooves with the orchestra for the production of Evita. Marc will miss a few Jumbo Shrimp gigs, but will return to the shrimp boat in November with a little extra Argentinian rhythm in his Caribbean Soul.
Welcome Wild Agave
The Jumbo Shrimp will make our debut at Wild Agave on Saturday October 12 at 7:00, but it won’t be our first time on that stage. Wild Agave is located where Flip Flop’s Cantina used to be – at 13645 Big Bend at Dougherty Ferry. The new owners Chris and Amy have given the place a great new vibe, added some creativity to the menu, and are now bringing live music back! They have a great track record at The Old Rock House and The Frontenac Grill, so we are expecting great things……and less drunk 21 year olds playing beer pong, but we won’t mention that! We hope it will be the first of many gigs at a location close to all our friends.
Farewell Tropical Escape
We are very bummed to have to let you know that Tropical Escape Tiki Bar and Grill in Edwardsville closed their doors on Saturday September 28. Debbie DeLassus and Bob Middleton had created a Parrothead’s dream right here in the Midwest, far from any beach. And it was an awesome place to be – with wonderful, fun and friendly people, great food, and great prices. But the restaurant business is a tough one to figure out, and their dream can to an end much too early. Thanks for the memories Debbie and Bob, and to all the Parrotheads of the Riverbend!
Jumbo Mojo Sauce Returns
Great news! The Jumbo Shrimp Band’s Jumbo Mojo Sauce is back in production and will be available at all gigs. Our Honey BBQ sauce is great for grilling Jumbo Shrimp and it will give an extra sweet and spicy kick to all your cooking! And the best part is that 100% of ALL proceeds from Jumbo Mojo Sauce sales at the gigs go to the St. Patrick’s Center – the largest provider of homeless services in Missouri.
Find N’Awlins at Broadway Oyster Bar
We are excited to bring the new lineup of the Jumbo Shrimp Band back to the Broadway Oyster Bar on Thursday, Aug. 15. The Band is rockin’ at fever pitch with Marc Torlina, Rory Finn, Mike McEnery and our fantastic new drummer Gene Poole. We will be breaking out all our Zydeco, Cajun and New Orleans R&B tunes for this gig at the closest thing to New Orleans you can find north of Lake Pontchartrain!
Get Some Paradise at Route 66 Parrothead Club Event
On Saturday, Sept. 14, from 6 – 10 p.m., the Jumbo Shrimp will be partying for a good cause with the Route 66 Parrothead club at Skippy’s Route 66 in Leasburg, MO. Skippy’s is hosting a benefit for the Humane Society of St. James, MO, and all are invited to join in the fun. Skippy’s is located less than an hour from St. Louis on I-44.
